Combining several acids rather than relying on one is deliberate: different acid molecule sizes work at different depths, so glycolic and lactic acids resurface the skin's surface to brighten and smooth texture, while salicylic acid, being oil-soluble, penetrates into pores to clear the congestion behind blackheads and blemishes.
